The Feldenkrais approach to change is through creating more awareness of our habits.
This includes out habits of attention.
It is very common to get good at using our thinking mind to make decisions— often omitting signals we are getting from our bodies in the present moment.
One way to begin using more of our senses is to use the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise. It goes like this:
- Describe 5 things you can see from where you are right now
- Describe 4 things you can hear
- 3 things you can feel (on your skin, from surfaces, etc)
- 2 things you can smell
- One thing you can taste
This writing prompt is a spin on that and will often get creative juices going for personal stories to share in speaking contexts.
