Service Description

Imagine a movie scene where the main character is about to give the speech of their life. They have their note cards clutched in hand. They are scared— but also filled with conviction. They know that every minute of their life has led them to this exact moment. They look out at the crowd. They pause. They look down at their notes. Suddenly they see what we, the viewer, has been seeing all along: the notes don't contain the thing they really want to say. They look back up at the crowd, abandon the script, and take a quiet breath. And out pours a talk that is at once personal and universal. We love these stories. We root for these characters. Because we feel it too— how every day, the world asks us to make a choice— between doing what is expected of us, and being who we are. The important part of that sentence, for me, is the word CHOICE. Because the human voice is an instrument for connection. And the instrument is played through movement. In these private, online sessions, you will learn about 5 movement aspects of the voice that are always broadcasting signals to others, even before we say one word: - Breath - Facial Muscles - Carriage of Head - Eye Movement - Melody (pitch, tone, volume, enunciation, and pace) We will look at how you have already learned to use these aspects of your voice, and how to safely explore outside of your habits using physical drills, writing prompts and real world assigments to do between lessons. While the Feldenkrais Method® provides a framework for my approach to public speaking, my teaching has been shaped by a number of influential disciplines and teachers, including: - The Meisner Technique - The Linklater Method - The Emotional Effector Patterns - The Kinēsa Process (with Lavinia Plonka) - Anatomical mentorship (with Candy Conino) Together, these influences have reinforced a simple idea: the voice does not exist in isolation. It emerges from our relationship with our breath, our values, gravity, and other people. And we always have more choices than we think.
